It all started with a brisk walk – every Thursday morning a group of expat ladies meets at a different location in Singapore, rain or shine, for a 2-hour walk.
Two members of the walking club, Sandra Delvers and Pleun Brevet, decided to capture the most exciting routes the club has visited over the years, map them, and collect them in a book. The Book of Walks contains 15 original walking routes through Singapore, from Sentosa, to Little India, MacRitchie and beyond. The routes, which have different levels of intensity, come with point by point instructions on how to walk and what to look out for, and are between 8 and 12 kilometres long. They explore the city centre, authentic local neighbourhoods, jungle, and will take you past many highlights across the island. The book is a must for long-term residents, new arrivals, and guests alike.
Sandra and Pleun procured the funds necessary to produce the book with crowdfunding, and decided to donate all the proceeds to their favourite charities; Riding for the Disabled Association of Singapore (RDA) for Sandra, and the Netherlands Charity Association (NCA) for Pleun.
On April 25th a VIP launch party was held at the stables of RDA, where of course, the walking club was present, as well as many other interested guests. Simultaneously with the Singapore event, a very special launch party was held in the Netherlands, where former members of the group reunited to celebrate the success of the book. Skype connected the two parties, and glasses were raised in both locations.
The Book of Walks can be purchased through NCA and RDA for 15 S$ each, and 100% of the proceeds go to the charities. Copies are available at Hollandse Club reception and in the next few weeks more selling points will be added throughout Singapore. You can also order the book online via the NCA webshop (http://www.nca.org.sg/shop/). For more information and ordering please contact your favourite charity directly: you can email NCA at email@example.com or RDA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
