It was everywhere in the news: Singapore experienced a cool spell in the first weeks of January due to a monsoon surge. On social media, Lion City citizens were joking about pulling winter clothes out of their closets, pictures of the Merlion were posted in snowy conditions, and shoppers on Orchard Road were spotted wearing woollen jumpers. Singaporeans had not experienced these “cold” temperatures since 1982, according to The Straits Times.

For us Europeans, we didn’t really mind the “chilly” weather. There was even a Member who said that it’s actually nice to walk around in jeans and a sweater! And believe it or not, in the Netherlands, 22C is a typical Summer temperature.

Despite the rainy weather, the children had a lot of fun swimming in the freezing cold (well, to the tropical denizens) pool. But we are all happy that the sunny weather has returned!
